Interesting around the intertubes today

June 10, 2009

Glenn Greenwald points out The paralyzing fears of the Right – after Ed Morrissey professed his petrification at the news that 17 Chinese “terrorists” (who had not ever been held or convicted for much of anything…) were being sent from Gitmo to the island of Palau – he’s going to book his vacation elsewhere, and thinks maybe you should too. (WTF? He’s not worried about the terrorists imprisoned in Manhattan?)

Pull up a chair, and get ready to hear about the desire for a good old fashioned book burning in West Bend, WI. Older folks are enraged there about some smut in the young adult section of the library, and got the CCLU involved when they weren’t allowed to remove the offending material. Now, the CCLU wants $120k for emotional damages for the plaintiffs, and the right to burn the offending smutty material (Baby Be-bop) in public. What did Baby Be-bop ever do to them, you might ask? Well…told the story of a gay young man struggling with his identity. Tsk, tsk, tsk. SHAME on that author – writing about that for young people in fiction like it was NORMAL or something. Harrumph!
h/t to Jesus General, who also has some encouragement for those folks.

Too bad New York doesn’t receive approximately 12 million dollars per “terrorist” they are holding. That’s a lot of money from the National government. However, on there’s a voice recording clip (originally from BBC) that has the president of Palau stating that the U.S. and Palau have not made arrangements in $200 million dollar aid. I find it odd.

Caitlyn – I was thinking the same thing…NY could use the $$$$ for all the REALLY, TRULY dangerous folks they are housing.

Meanwhile…China does NOT want those folks going on vacation to Palau…shrugs my shoulders.
