Good on Him…but not quite good enough

May 30, 2008

From the NYTs:

New York to Back Same-Sex Unions From Elsewhere

NY Governor David Patterson has moved NY state closer to allowing same sex marriage by forcing the state to recognize all legal unions performed outside of state bounds.  This will allow legally married same sex couples the same rights and benefits as traditional legally married couples in the state.  Over 1300 policies were reviewed, and based on the past precedent of recognizing legal unions in other states (for example, common law marriage), it was determined that same-sex marriages/unions fit this criteria, and so, must come under the same rulings.

This is good, but the Governor does need to continue his work, and get the New York State Senate to move on the bill pushed forth by the state Assembly which would allow gay marriage.
