New Deadly Sins, and Jesus and Mo

March 11, 2008

Vatican lists new sinful behaviors

from CNN Online.

    1. Pollution
    2. Drugs
    3. Genetic Manipulation
    4. Social and Economic Injustice
    5. Pedophilia
    6. Abortion

Father Antonio Pelayo, a Spanish priest and Vatican expert noted that it is time for both sinners and confessors to get over their obsession with sex and think about other ways humans hurt each other in the world in which they live.

I don’t totally agree with #3 or #6, as sins per se, but the rest of this list looks ok, and good Antonio Pelayo+ is dead on. Look – I’m partially agreeing with the Vatican…WRITE IT DOWN!!

Hold on a second! Abortion is just now a sin?

Then what have they been ranting about lo these past forty years?

Lessons to be learned – from Huffington Post online:

        1. Pay hookers in cash.
        2. Think globally, act locally: don’t cross state lines to get laid.
        3. Don’t use “George Fox” as a pseudonym.
        4. If using a pseudonym, make up a phony address. Revealing the marital residence on Fifth Avenue is a bad idea.

Okay, so maybe I’m misreading this, but would have thought that drugs would fit in the original categories of gluttony or sloth (the results) and that excess wealth could fall under gluttony, greed, pride or even perhaps lust which was at one point extravagance.

The whole thing just seems a bit excessive and strangely specific but then again, I’m not a RC
        :shrugs:

As they say, the media just don’t “get” religion.
