    This is indeed shocking:

    Overall: 30% Conservative, 70% Liberal

Social Issues: 50% Conservative, 50% Liberal

Personal Responsibility: 25% Conservative, 75% Liberal

Fiscal Issues: 0% Conservative, 100% Liberal

    Ethics: 50% Conservative, 50% Liberal

Defense and Crime: 25% Conservative, 75% Liberal

Or maybe not so. I’m always treated as Mr. Reactionary on these blogs because I consider marriage a relationship between opposite sexes (one that should remain so) and abortion, in the words of the Second Vatican Council, “an abominable crime.” Otherwise I’ve always been a good Democrat.

I know the terms “liberal” and “conservative” have some utility–otherwise why would we use them constantly? But really, what have the “conservative” positions on Iraq, budget balancing, or abortion have to do with each other? Why is is “liberal” to think the death penalty unjustified killing but “conservative” to think elective abortion unjustified? Just this week the Supreme Court struck down restrictions on political speech in a decision hailed and damned as “conservative.” Well, yes, it does let money talk more, and I’ve always thought of this our republic as more a plutocracy than a democracy. But the old embers of an earler civil libertarian in me keep asking, “What right has Congress to keep anyone from saying anything, especially on political subjects?”

Still, it’s nice to be numbered amongst the pinkos once in a while.

Fiscal Issues: 75% Conservative, 25% Liberal

    Ethics: 25% Conservative, 75% Liberal

Defense and Crime: 25% Conservative, 75% Liberal

Which sounds about right for me.

    Color me red:

    Overall: 5% Conservative, 95% Liberal

Social Issues: 0% Conservative, 100% Liberal

Personal Responsibility: 0% Conservative, 100% Liberal

Fiscal Issues: 0% Conservative, 100% Liberal

    Ethics: 0% Conservative, 100% Liberal

Defense and Crime: 25% Conservative, 75% Liberal

I don’t know what I answered in the defense/crime category that swung me. Perhaps I misread a question.

I’m not scary either. That makes me sad. But I am more liberal than Eileen.
