This highly relevant to the LGBT community in my area (Rochester NY). Currently, the local police is investigating two related hate crimes that occurred at the beginning of this month. There’s also allegations (with some pretty good evidence to support them) that the incident also involved police conduct.

Currently, the FBI is investigating the police misconduct along with the local internal affairs investigators. However, they are not investigating the hate crimes. Last night, when members of the Gay Alliance of the Genesee Valley’s Anti-Violence Program were asked why the FBI wasn’t investigating the hate crimes, they responded it’s because without legislation like this current bill, the FBI has no jurisdiction when it comes to hate crimes motivated by sexual orientation. Their hands are tied.

Needless to say, our community is pushing for this legislation to be passed.

Since I’m new to this, I’m not sure how to make a link.

But this should get to the HRC Action Center to contact our Senators:

If we all take a minute…

    Ugh. and ARRRRGH.

If this bill doesn’t pass, I’m officially declaring the US Gov’t as populated by complete ASSHATS.

Jerseyjo – I sent my letters in.

I should really write one by hand.
