Speaking of Kirk Cameron

Converting Kirk Cameron

This article talks about how Kirk came to Christ.

I suppose, as far as Hollywood stories go, there are far worse things than for a self-indulgent actor to find God. That he had to find him in biblical literalism and fundamentalist salvation ideology is too bad, but, better than becoming another drug addicted washed up has been.

The fact that he’s into the Left Behind series, and starred in a few adaptations of said books disturbs me more, because that stuff is tripe. The crapture is just that – CRAPture.

Apparently, Kirk and a Christian colleague, Austrailian surf-shop owner turned roving preacher Ray Comfort, started a church called Way of the Master Ministries. Kirk does a radio show with him, television programming, and now a slick internet site.

Well, now we know.

Don’t say I never gave any of you anything. I’m not sayin’, I’m just sayin’…

What’s this game thingy that keeps coming up on your front page? How do you get rid of it? I can’t read the first post.

Maddie – You are a pain in the ass!

I shall remove it to another place.

It wasn’t doing that earlier, but I see it is now.

Plus, Kay asked so nicely, how could I refuse?

The Bible church (used to be Baptist) across the street hands out a copy of The School of Biblical Evangelism to all its graduating high school seniors. The book, written by Cameron and Comfort, is disturbing to say the least. It is a how-to manual on witnessing, complete with scripts. Evidently, the main reason to become a Christian is to escape the fires of hell, and the way to convert people is to use their tried and true methods:

Christian:”Do you think you are a good person?”

    Victim: “Why, yes.”

Christian: “Have you ever told a lie?”

Ima Chump: “Well, just a little white lie…”

Christian: “Then you are a liar. Have you ever stolen?”

Ima Chump: “Only a candy bar.”

Christian: Then you are a thief and a sinner, and doomed to the fires of Hell…”

in other words, God’s love=God’s wrath, burn in hell, sinners…

Quite disturbing, that. And watching “Jesus Camp” last night didn’t help matters.

Actually, when you click on the link back, there is video of Cameron saying exactly those things to a group of rough looking men.

Does this kind of evangelism shrink your common sense cells?
